William Monroe defeated Stuarts Draft tonight 108-89 in the Region B Boy’s Basketball Semi Final. After a little bit of excitement in the second period, the game got pretty boring. Monroe had a huge lead and Draft never really got close. Packed house in Madison tonight, don’t think I’ve seen the gym that full since 2010! (click any of the images below to see the entire gallery)

State Wrestling always begins with the Parade of Champions (wrestlers who have won State Championships in previous years).
Madison’s Tyler Atwell, State Champion in 2009.
Madison’s Anthony Jewett, State Champion in 2011.
Don’t know her full name, first name was Crystal, local school teacher or administrator, awesome rendition of the National Anthem!
Strasburg’s Hunter Dean won the State Championship at 106 pounds, 12-3 over Josh Lafferty of Nottoway. Three Strasburg wrestlers in the finals came home with three State Championships.
Strasburg’s Nic Campbell won the State Championship, at 120 pounts, over Gilbert Rodriguez of Manassas Park 7-1. The Bull Run District was VERY well represented in the Group A State Finals. Out of the 14 weight classes, a Bull Run District wrestler was in 9 of the finals.
You might remember Kent Cadle from this post a couple of years ago (scroll to the bottom of the post). He won the State Championship at 125# for Manassas Park. This year, wrestling for Strasburg, he defeated Trey Smith of Grundy 5-3 to win the State Championship at 132 pounds.
Wrestling isn’t easy on the fans either. Time was running out for their wrestler, Cole Lowe of Holston.
Isaiah Baker of Manassas Park defeated Cole Lowe of Holston 5-4 to win the State Championship at 160 pounds.
Ben Wallace of Clarke battles Logan Dean of J.I. Burton.
Ben Wallace of Clarke defeated Logan Dean of J.I. Burton 7-2 (I think) at 170 pounds.
Madison’s J.P. Utz finished at State Runner Up in the 195 pound class, losing to Stuart Draft’s Sam Davis 6-1.
Manassas Park’s Corey Jenkins defeated King William’s Tyler Gilbertson 7-3 in the 220 pound weight class.

William Monroe senior Gary Morris is interviewed by Channel 29’s Marty Hudtloff following the Dragons 78-59 win over Clarke in the Bull Run District Tournament Finals tonight. Morris led all scorers with 35 points, and Markel Williams put in 27, including the 1000th of his career. Check www.scrimmageplay.com tomorrow for the story and more photos.
