ScrimmagePlay Photo Shoot

Published by under football,scrimmageplay

Near the end of July, Bart from ScrimmagePlay contacted me about doing a photo shoot for them for their upcoming Football Preview Edition of their printed magazine.  Luckily I was available, and after a little planning, the shoot came together the following Saturday.  This is the fourth one I’ve done for them, and easily the biggest.  We ran four athletes through quite a few scenarios.  It was quite warm the day of the shoot, and most of the shoot took place in a little training room just off the football field at Monticello High School.  It was hotter in that little room than it was outside, and there was NO air movement.  But, I’ll have to give it to the athletes, no complaints at all from them, and they did everything we asked them to do.  GREAT guys to work with!

(l to r) Woodberry Forest’s Doug Randolph, Goochland’s Nathan Adams, Albemarle’s Ryan Londree, and Monticello’s T.J. Tillery.

Most of the shots that they wanted for the magazine were pretty straightforward, they wanted a heavily lighted style, and I love to do that, so it was right up my alley.  BUT, they also wanted a shot that showed movement….a football player coming off the line….and they sent along a small photo they’d found online of the concept.  And, I’ll be quite honest, I wasn’t sure I could pull it off.  That was WAY beyond anything I’d ever done…..but it worked out better than I ever expected.  See the result below.  That is ONE image, no Photoshop.   There was some darkening at the top and bottom done in Lightroom, but the image is not composited.  To learn more about how I did it, you’ll have to subscribe to their magazine :-).  Along with the subscription to the print edition, you’ll also get a subscription to their new digital edition.  At the end of the digital edition, there is a behind the scenes round table discussion between Bart, Ryan and I on how the shoot came together.  Pretty cool.  And, here’s the link to subscribe, go ahead and click it.  You’ll be glad you did.  They do an awful lot to support high school athletics in our area, including our Madison athletes, so you need to support them also.
