This one was a bit of a mistake, it’s overexposed, but I liked the way the fireworks lit up the ground, and turned everything red…
And here are a few more. Click on any of the images below for a slideshow of more from last night. For the images below, I’ve included the camera settings in the caption in case that’s of interest to you. I prefer longer shutter speeds than is usually recommended for fireworks. You don’t get quite as good of detail in the fireworks themselves, but the longer shutter speeds give me a bit more ambient light, which I like.

These first three were taken with a 50mm lens and extension tubes, a relatively inexpensive way to make your lenses focus A LOT closer.
I don’t have protective filters on the front of any of my lenses (I’ve had glare problems in the past with filters, so I stopped using them). They’re not a bad idea since they protect the front element on the lens, but I like to live dangerously I guess…. Anyway, with the 36mm extension tube on the lens, I was so close to this bug I had to remove the lens hood… less than an inch way…he didn’t seem to like it very much!
