Nice to be outside once again! Madison’s varsity boy’s soccer team took on Page today and came away with a 6-1 win. Scoring for Madison were Luke Crouthamel (2), Dominic Roebuck (2), Luis Herrara, and Matt Batman. (click any picture below to see the entire gallery)
Dominic Roebuck had two goals today.
I had a remote camera behind the goal today…and actually got several shots that I liked. The first is a Matt Garr header that unfortunately sailed wide of the goal.
The second is Luis Herrara’s goal in the first half.
Dom’s first goal in the second half would have been a great shot from a goal cam, but I can’t put one on the other end of the field…I just wouldn’t get anything shooting into that sun. There’s a nice sequence of Luis’ goal in the gallery. I didn’t get much of anything of all the scoring in the second half. Shooting into that low sun just sucks…
George Mason’s Lady Mustangs brought home their second State Championship in two years, defeating the Lancaster Lady Devils 58-47. Mason started a little slow, but once they took the lead, there wasn’t much doubt who would win the game. I was in Richmond on Saturday to shoot the Buckingham game for the Daily Progress and Scrimmageplay, so I went a little early and shot Mason’s game also. So, that makes TWO basketball State Championships for the Bull Run District this year! (click any photo below to see the gallery of images)
Congratulations to Madison’s boy’s basketball team for a perfect season, 26-0. The only other basketball state championship for Madison was won in 1977…the year I graduated from MCHS. David Falk starts the game off with a dunk for the Mountaineers.
The halftime show is about to start...
Trey Hensley. Coach Mike Cartolaro, in the post game press room: “...21 delivered the biggest shot of the year..with that three in the corner...”
Hundreds of Mountaineers fans turned out at the MCHS to welcome home the State Champions, who were escorted from the county line by every emergency vehicle in the county.
Aksel Falk - 1977 State Champion and David Falk - 2010 State Champion check out the Basketball championship banner hanging in Wetsel gym. “He’s always telling me, ‘you ain’t got the ring yet, you ain’t got the ring yet,’” Falk said. “He can’t say it anymore.”
Madison’s boy’s basketball team defeated the Castlewood Blue Devils this afternoon 51-38 to advance to the Group A, Division 1 State Final game tomorrow (Friday) in Richmond. Logan Terrell led all scorers with 14 points, followed by Jerel Carter and David Falk with 9 each, Casey Campbell with 8, Matt Garr with 6, Trey Hensley with 3, and Patrick Lucas with 2. David Falk dunks off a pass off the backboard from Jerel Carter.
When asked about the decision to pass the ball off the backboard to David, when Jerel could have easily made the shot himself:
From ScrimmagePlay.com: “We just had to get the crowd into and get the momentum going in our favor,” Carter explained of his decision to let Falk finish the play when he had an easy opportunity to do it himself. “Coach [Early, in the timeout afterwards] told me it was a dumb thing to do, but I felt like I was the right thing for the moment.”
